Section work

If there is no groundwater, we work in sections with open shields - the most cost-effective method of underground pipe jacking. It allows us to create the most diverse tunnel profiles in the most varied geologies, while achieving great driving performance. We either work with excavation technology or scrapers depending on the type of soil.

SONNTAG also uses manned shield driving where others resort to significantly more elaborate microtunnelling. After all, we are in a position to perform section work using compressed air. We use this method, for example, if groundwater is present, but unpredictable obstacles make the use of microtunnelling machines an economic risk.
